Friends,

It's been a while!

We are thrilled to bring you news of a live show ... and we're delighted to be welcoming BLICK BASSY back to Liverpool, in association with Africa Oyé.

We've been keeping busy behind the scenes, and will be back in very touch soon with more shows to announce.

In the meantime, please read on for more information on the imminent Blick Bassy date, details of Mellowtone Records releases, new print editions, and DJ mixes for your listening pleasure...

Love  x

Imagine an African artist with the tenderly subversive touch of Bon Iver, the haunting falsetto of Skip James, the razor-like mind of Akala, and the inventiveness of Moses Sumney. You’ve just imagined Blick Bassy.

Described by The Guardian as 'one of Africa’s most inventive and distinctive singer-songwriters’ in a five-star review, Bassy's Liverpool date follows the acclaimed release of his album '1958'  - a defiant tribute to the heroes who fought and died for the independence of his native Cameroon.  The album's focus is specific, but its themes – the bondage of neo-colonialism, the need for heroes, the relevance of history and the search for the true identity – are universal.

Those who saw Blick's last date, know.  Those who didn't - please don't miss out this time around...

In addition to The Guardian, Bassy has received rave reviews from the likes of The London Evening Standard, The Observer and Songlines Magazine, as well as being played by Lauren Laverne, Gideon Coe and Cerys Matthews on 6 Music and by Max Reinhardt and Mary Anne Kennedy on BBC Radio 3.

Please note - if you had previously booked tickets for the cancelled concert on 25th May 2020, you have been refunded and will need to re-book your tickets.

NEW MIX FROM JONNIE O'HARE

One of our longstanding resident DJs, Jonnie O'Hare, has put together a wonderful mix for your listening pleasure, featuring the sort of sounds you'd expect to hear before, between and after the live music at a Mellowtone show.  It's a fabulous selection - if we do say so ourselves - a journey through blues, jazz, r'n'b, soul and funk to reggae.  Kick back, and tune in to this two and a half hour odyssey now...

NEW MUSIC FROM SEAFOAM GREEN

Cover artwork by Helen Davies

'Martin's Garden' is the upcoming long player from Seafoam Green, the band's second studio record. Their debut was a collaboration with Rich Robinson, of the Black Crowes. Once again, 'The Green' are collaborating with the artists residing in their own record collections - inspirations steeped in the culture of the Southern States.

They specialise in what we have come to know as Americana. If you want earthy, rootsy, blues, gospel, country, folk, the band have it.  Amalgamated, this is the sound of a glorious rock n’ soul revival, an inimitable collision of Irish Roots and Southern American rock and soul. A unique take on a classic sound.
