Friends,
As we approach the end of 2020, a mad year to say the very least, we just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for all your support.
To bring some festive cheer, one of our longstanding resident DJs, Jonnie O'Hare, has curated four hours of Christmas inspired jazz, blues, r'n'b, soul, funk, hiphop & reggae... it's quite the yuletide journey!
TUNE IN HERE
We did manage a couple of live shows earlier in the year - including the magical 'last party' - KREWE LIVERPOOL, produced in collaboration with Laura Brownhill.
Whilst it was a rather different programme than usual for us in 2020, we've been keeping busy. Read on for links to some of our online shows, Mellowtone Records releases, our podcast exploring Liverpool's Black Music History, print editions, and more mixes for your listening pleasure...
Enjoy! x

KREWE LIVERPOOL / LOVE NOT FEAR
KREWE LIVERPOOL - The Mardi Gras Experience, was our last big gathering before the lockdown. We collaborated with multi-disciplinary artist Laura Brownhill to produce this magical event. You can view a gallery from the night at Art in Liverpool here, and check our instagram for wonderful photgraphs by David Edwards.
LOVE NOT FEAR was a project launched earlier in the year (by Mellowtone, Laura Brownhill, Vessel Studios), to create a digital community 'vison board' of people's hopes and visions for the new world, and a positive response to the global stuation. It's a place to plant the seeds and spread the message of the positive changes people hope to see in the future - through all creative mediums. You can view the submissions here.
BENEATH THE MERSEYBEAT - PODCAST
'Beneath the Merseybeat' is a four-part podcast series that was created specially for ON RECORD: UNTOLD & RETOLD, featuring archive interviews and music. The series explores how Black American, African and Caribbean music found its way to Liverpool post-war, the first impact of these sounds on Liverpool and its music scene, and how they were assimilated, appropriated and expressed. We then further explore these themes, charting what was happening in Liverpool throughout the 1960s and 70s.
The 'Beneath the Merseybeat' podcast series was inspired and informed by our Next Stop New York project, which launched in 2015 as part of the Liverpool International Music Festival, exploring these same themes.
